Reno - Denver 11

We leave this morning This is the longest trip we’ve taken so far. We’re continuing our trip on the Zephyr overnighting on the train. Denver is situate in the Plattt River Valley, 12 miles east of the foothills of the Sierra Nevada / Rockies. There’s no internet on this train, therefore you can enjoy a welcome silence for 25 hours.

We’ve just discovered that the train will be at least 2 hours late. The extremely pleasant girl at Amtrak station informed us that it was 6 hours late arriving at SF/ Emeryville last evening!! It’s the same train so...  When I came here as a student in the 1970s, we were advised not to take trains as they were unreliable time wise and frequently broke down!! Today, they are much improved, but as a result of being required to give way to freight on the line, their timetables can be disrupted.

We visited another casino nearby. The area appears quite tired during the day. It certainly looked better in the night neon light. It too was quiet. However, we will miss the action!!! The roads are closed around the casinos as it appears a bikers’ meet is imminent. There are clothes stalls, multiple restaurants and entertainment being set up as I write

We wait........
